Save pack weight with a yabbie straw

You can save carrying water in your pack when fresh water is around you. Simple carry a food grade pipe (I use a spare hydration pack hose). This makes it easy to get water from rock pools which are usually a good clean source of water. Also you can get water from rivers, puddles and even yabbie holes!

Before using your yabbie straw know whether the water you are getting is suitable for drinking.

I would personally be very cautious with obtaining water from any stagnant water source, especially when trying to get water from a place I cannot inspect (such as inside a rock crevasse). I would purify any water I obtain, unless I could be certain it has been deposited from very recent rain.

I like what you've done with your blog design. Well done!

Yes out-bush you need to be careful with water. In this video I'm in south western Tasmania where we know that water is clean. Always know what water is ok to drink in your area by talking to someone who knows the area and know what the recent weather has been.

I thought you hiking types were tough? Should be able to drink anything...

I prefer to take a hammer drill and a tap. Drill the rock from underneath into the water supply and insert the tap. Then you've got water on tap.

I used to work in a winery. The old guys called their tube a yoyo. But it wasn't water they were sucking!
