How to live with a leaking tent floor

Our last weekend away in January saw water seeping through the floor of our Tanami Tourer tent. There are some sealers available that I might try. But in talking with a friend he suggested the following:

"We have only been through showering weather not heavy storms in our Oztrail Tourer tent. The floor is a woven nylon and I think if water was to soak under it, it wouldn't remain waterproof. What we do is carry a sheet of clear thick plastic that fits neatly inside the floor area and rises approx 50cm up each wall. We also use a tarp on the ground under the tent as a protector. The worst situations have been when water pools around or under the tent."

Hmm I was also in a similar situation where a sudden downpour resulted water pooling underneath my tent. It basically made my tent like a waterbed. Fortunately I had no leaking through the tent floor (I believe the tent was a Kathmandu one), but nonetheless I had to dig for an hour in the rain to allow the water to drain free!!
