Black Wolf Turbo Plus - rubbish!!??

This was to be the tent of our dreams.

Was to be.

We bought the first one and took it out for a trial run in the Blue Mountains. Perfect long weekend, even a little rain on Sunday night.

And the brand new tent leaked. When we bought the tent the Black Wolf rep was in the store and he guaranteed it not to leak for two years. This one lasted two days...

The leak seemed to be coming through the seam in the extension section, but some drops seemed to be coming through the material itself.

So we took it back and they replaced it no problems.

Then took it to the Victorian High Country in summer this year. By the end of the trip, the eyelets on the awning were pulling away from the material and the zip on the curtain on the inside of the tent was pulling away from the material. Neither of those were big issues but on an $900 tent after a couple of weeks?

To top it off we came back to find that friends who had bought the same tent at the same time were having problems too. They had gone to Myall Lakes for a summer break and had a few days of rain. Water had come through the material of the Black Wolf.

So we took both of them back. It took a little convincing but eventually they gave us our money back.

Verdict?

We really loved using the tent. It is great to set up with a roomy interior. It packed up a bit big but all the poles are included so it is not bad when you think about it.

But the killer for us was the quality control issues we discovered. Sure you can spend more than $900 on a tent, a lot more, but leaks and material pulling away after a couple of weeks and a bit of rain is not acceptable.

Perhaps it was a bad batch, but just at the moment we are not recommending the Turbo Lite range of Black Wolf tents.

Did you seam seal it?

We were very disappointed in our Turbo lite tent. There are some big differences between these and the normal Turbo tent.

One that was really annoying was the lack of a 'D' door. The was a large gap and as mentioned above a lot of tension on the zip fabric around the top. Further venting the tent in poor weather wasn't easy as the sliders were at the bottom where the rain could come in, not anywhere as would be possible with a better D setup.

We also found the floor material to be far too loud. It help up to the water ok, but now we've got something better we wouldn't go back. Sounds like a small thing, but with 2 kids and 2-3 days of rain - yes it matters.

Shoud they have to? FOr $900, definitely not!

did you use the fly?

Yep, we used the fly.

I am looking at the Oztent and blackwolf turbo at the moment, probably the 300 plus. So you are saying the lite is no good but the standard is good in the turbo? I like the turbo because of the space...
thx
James
